Top 10 Comeback acts of 2007

The Jamaica Observer composed a list of Jamaican artists of which they thought did some amazing things in 2007. Brick & Lace came in at #2, just short of Junior Reid. Check out what they had to say about Nyanda & Nailah.

2. Brick & Lace - They’ve been creating waves in music for some time now. At 14, Brick & Lace opened for Roberta Flack at her concert, and in time they went mainstream with Done It To Me. For some reason, they fell off our radar, leaving us with the taste of their hit on the Swatch riddim - but in 2007, Brick & Lace was having none of it. They gave us hits like Never Never and Love Is Wicked, and in short order catapulted themselves back to the fore of our musical diet.

Chilling in Mandeville

Another week, another school! The RE-TV High School Tour bus crossed toll roads, survived the hilly and sometimes treacherous turns and rolled into the parish of Manchester to give the students of Manchester High School their first taste of the Tour.

The cool town of Mandeville welcomed the Tour and BET hitmakers Brick and Lace with some rain. The girls completely disregarded the rain and gave the crowd a full performance of their song Never, Never. Being such great sports with the rain they proceeded to serenade the crowd the lyrics of Rihanna’s hit Umbrella even bending down to share an umbrella with a student from the crowd.

The love shown from the crowd was definitely ‘wicked’, as the beat from their latest single, Love is Wicked.

Request

Make sure you are calling into your local radio stations constantly requesting Love Is Wicked! Make sure you mention Akon in one way or another to get the radio DJ’s listening. Next week, I want to call into Z100 to get them to play the track. IF we can get 400 people to call in throughout next week, they’ll have no choice but to play the track! z100 is a BIG radio station. If it gets played there, it will get played everywhere! If we want to see results, we’ve got to make sure we make things happen! Please, post bulletins on myspace and get your friends to call in for the remainder of this week to your local radio station. Next week, I want to focus on Z100, and Z100 only.

In other news, Brick & Lace are in the latest issue of Right On! Magazine. Pick up a copy to see a nice pin-up poster of Brick & Lace.

I also have some Live Journal Icon to add to the website that were donated last month by a few visitors. Stay clicked and keep REQUESTING ‘LOVE IS WICKED’ ON THOSE RADIO LINES. Love is Wicked is doing great over seas but, we need to Brick & Lace America now.

Brick & Lace: Beautiful, gritty, talented

By: Garfene Grandison
Observer TEENage writer Campion College

The world has been taken by storm by the hot and sexy sibling duo of Brick and Lace (B&L). Based in Fort Lauderdale, which they call their second home (Jamaica being the first), they come to Jamaica on a regular basis to take a break from all the stresses of international stardom. On their recent visit to Jamaica they took the time out to talk to TEENage and here was what they had to say:

TEENage: What are your full names?

B&L: (Giggles) Nyanda and Nailah Thorbourne.

TEENage: Where did you grow up and what schools did you attend?

B&L: We grew up in Kingston in a complex across from Blue Cross. Nailah attended St Andrew High School for Girls and Nyanda went to Campion College.

TEENage: Some people have been reluctant to call you Brick & Lace because they say that your physical and facial attributes adds a softness so they prefer to call you ‘Satin and Silk’ instead. What do you have to say about that? What is the inspiration for your name?

B&L: (Gasps).
We are very touched by the comments of the people about ‘Satin and Silk’, but it’s the first time we have ever heard that, but nonetheless we are flattered. However, the name Brick and Lace derives from the different sounds that can be heard in our music. The brick side represents the gritty edge in our music, which is born in us because we are Jamaicans while the lace side represents our smooth harmony.
